    BOOK & LYRICS

    Laurence & Felicia won the prestigious Kleban Award for Most Promising Musical Theatre Librettists, as well as ASCAP’s Sammy Cahn Award for Outstanding Lyricists. They collaborated on the book & lyrics of musicals for many years, up to the time of Felicia's untimely death from breast cancer in July 2023. The duo first met in Modern Drama class at Columbia College and wrote together in the BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. Laurence and Felicia's other works include Wallenberg (White Plains Performing Arts Center, NYMF and Equity Lab directed by Martin Charnin), The Jerusalem Syndrome (Off-Broadway premiere at the York Theatre Company; Original Cast Recording on JAY Records; winner of the Theatre for the American Musical Prize for Most Promising Book Musical), That Time of the Year (Off-Broadway premiere at the York Theatre Company; Original Cast Recording on JAY Records), Suddenly Hope (Stamford Center for the Arts, Garfield Theatre in La Jolla and Denver Civic Theatre) and I Married a Witch (ASCAP Workshop), as well as the children’s musicals The Hudson River, We All Are America, and All the Same.  Projects in development include the original musicals, Making Ends Meet and The Window, as well as Suddenly a Song, a collection of their cabaret material. Laurence and Felicia are both members of ASCAP and the Dramatists Guild. In addition to his work with Felicia, Laurence is the co-author (with Marc Goldsmith) of the original play and screenplay, The Queen is in the Parlour, and the original screenplay, Fella.  As a principal of Bard Theatricals, Laurence's producing credits include The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jagged Little Pill, Stranger Sings!, Fiddler on the Roof, China Doll, The Scottsboro Boys, Looped, The Anarchist, and the Latin American premiere of El Chico de Oz, as well as the Museum of Broadway. Laurence is also a graduate of Columbia Law School. Felicia toured in 42nd Street as a member of Actor’s Equity, and was a featured performer with the A & G Dance Company. For several years, she was on the faculty of Broadway Dance Center, where she taught tap dance.  Her popular blog, UnwrittenRecipes.com, offered easy, delicious, family-friendly recipes. Felicia's many talents will be sorely missed.

    MUSIC

    David is a composer, pianist, violinist, and arranger based in New York City. He has composed the music for 13 musicals. His first musical, Tart, was first produced in NYC in 1999 and subsequently in 2001 at the Abigail Adams Smith Auditorium. This was followed by the chamber musical Barsong, which enjoyed several productions at black box theatres and clubs in the Tri-state area from 2003-2005. Following this, David composed the music to the fantasy musical Anna, the Storyteller (directed by B.T. McNichol.) The show enjoyed a 29-hour reading and workshop followed by several performances in NYC, Off-Off Broadway. Creole Nights was produced in Harrison, NY in 2006 starring a cast from Broadway and TV. A Musical for Everyone is still in the final writing stages and is due to open in Chicago in 2026. (Chicago is also the home for the premieres of two full-length operas composed by David, both of which have enjoyed numerous productions, both professionally and by renowned colleges.) Avarice (starring Wilson Heredia) opened in NYC in 2007 for a 4 week run. David collaborated with Laurence Holzman and Felicia Levinson on One Night, which has enjoyed readings and performances in NYC. Santa Claus and the Magical Moon Dragonwas the resident musical at the Westchester Playhouse for their 2015 season and enjoyed a 3-week sold-out run. Brush Strokes opened in Westchester at the Depot Theater in 2023 where it enjoyed a 2-week sold-out run. And Paperboy (written with Emily Loesser, Don Stephenson, Vince Vawter and Pump Boy’s and Dinettes composer Jim Wann) was the mainstage musical at Manhattan School of Music in 2023. While in the advanced class at the BMI workshop, David composed the music to three shows, The Scarlet Letter (unfinished), The Charm (licensed by MTI and frequently performed internationally), and Midnight in Paris. David also orchestrated numerous musicals including Howard Blake's The Snowman (which has run in the West End since 1998) and  Robin Hood: The Untold Story (by the creators of Annie), as well as several shows in Germany. As pianist/music director David has worked with renowned members of the music profession, including Vanessa Williams, Tony Bennett, Zach Levi, Sierra Boggess, Renée Fleming, Marilyn Maye, Liz Callaway, Sir André Previn, Michael Feinstein, Katie Couric, Alan Menken, and Stephen Schwartz. David enjoyed a long, close working relationship with lyricist Martin Charnin until Charnin's death in 2019. David began writing music at the age of nine, and has written hundreds of pieces including a symphony, piano concertos, violin concertos and string quartets. Recent works include a double jazz violin concerto, various chamber works, and two operas. David’s CDs are widely available, and his solo piano CDs, Sunnyside Blues and Social Flutterby (on the Steinway & Sons label), have won high acclaim, as well as several awards. David wrote his first film score for Franc Reyes' drama, Beauty, which was screened in Hollywood, Miami and New York. His latest score - a documentary entitled Amy's Victory Dance - was picked up by Amazon Prime. This documentary has won in many International Film Awards, including Best Score at the Japan International Film Festival. David teaches extensively and, as a coach, accompanist and teaching professor, has been on the faculties of NYU, The New School, The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, St. Thomas Choir School and Grace Church School. He is also a composer in residence in the advanced class of the BMI- Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. Born in Rotherham (South Yorkshire), England, David studied violin and piano at The Royal College of Music, London from where he graduated with the highest honours.
